Job Description

The purpose of this job is to lead database projects and provide database administration expertise and problem solving in order to ensure high reliability and performance.

This position will require someone with:

Qualifications:
* High school diploma or equivalent certification required; bachelor’s degree in computer science, business administration, information technology or related field preferred
* Minimum five years’ technology operations experience with strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices required
* Experience leading implementations of MS SQL Server or relatable RDM required
* Experience in implementing operational automation using scripts required
* Certification in MCTS, MCITP, MVP preferred

Specialized Knowledge:
* Strong SQL language skills required
* Solid understanding of relational database modeling
* Expert knowledge of relational database design principles
* Expert level skills in troubleshooting and resolving database problems
* Expert level skills in Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
* Expert level knowledge of SSIS, SSRS, backups, restores and recovery models
* Expert level knowledge implementing High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions for MSSQL Server environments
* Expert level knowledge of indexes, index management, and statistics
* Experience with how operating systems work with RDMS systems
* Experience with Information Security Policies and how they relate with RDMS systems
* Experience with database performance tuning (use of Profiler, Query Explanation Plan)

The basic duties of this position include:

1. Lead and monitor the installation, configuration, upgrades and patching of database, ETL and reporting systems in accordance with work defined by Database management
2. Implement and monitor a comprehensive backup strategy to ensure recoverability of application and systems databases
3. Troubleshoot issues such as connection, failed jobs, application errors, server alerts, space thresholds, etc. within predefined service level agreements (SLAs); serve as a resource for resolving complex, escalated issues and collaborate with Database Developers to resolve and prevent performance and reliability issues
4. Proactively maintain and tune databases including indexing, configuration changes, and statistics, to prevent issues
5. Implement strong database security including access control, encryption and auditing as defined by management
6. Lead quality assurance (QA), user acceptance testing (UAT), and production database deployments to support new/upgraded applications and bug fixes
7. Implement strong disaster recovery (DR) and high availability (HA) solutions as directed by manager
8. Create and review documentation to support any installation, configuration, or application managed by the Database Administration team
9. Ensure the on-line processing database systems offer the highest reliability and performance possible
10. Lead projects and ongoing activities related to the operation and organization of the databases, assessment and implementation of new technologies; represent the Database Administration team perspective and communicate project status and concerns to management
11. Identify and analyze opportunities for how databases can support or enhance reliability of PFJ businesses and communicate these opportunities and recommendations to management
12. Work with Architecture, Application Development and Operations to achieve a state-of-the-art environment that meets current and future business objectives
13. Train and develop Technical Support and Applications team members regarding the utilization of on-line processing databases environment
14. Design tools to assist in the management of the database and transaction processing environment
15. Develop an operational model of the PFJ transaction processing environment for capacity assessment and planning
16. Ensure all activities are in compliance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures set forth by manager
