Job Description

The purpose of this position is to address legal matters within specific departments and subject matter areas while maintaining close communication with collegues to ensure an integrated, consistent approach to legal services.

Essential Functions

  • Draft, review and negotiate direct bill, supply, transportation, technology, non-disclosure agreements, and various other contracts and licenses
  • Research regulatory issues such as fuel pricing regulations, credit regulations, and lottery regulations
  • Provide analysis and assistance in resolving customer issues
  • Review customer and vendor bankruptcy filings and prepare claims for bankruptcy proceedings; engage outside counsel for bankruptcy litigation issues
  • Provide legal support for facility leases, distribution agreements for third parties, and lottery documentation and filings
  • Assist with tenant disputes and delinquencies
  • Identify claims for class action litigation as plaintiff and gather information for claims process
  • Assist with litigation efforts to recover debt and/or monies owed to the company
  • Investigate and respond to consumer complaints escalated to the legal department which are made against the company
  • Advise stakeholders on appropriate course of action regarding contracts, regulatory requirements, and other superseding conditions
  • Resolve disputes with vendors, tenants, and other PFJ business partners
  • Complete due diligence on acquisitions, joint ventures, and mergers
  • Supervise paralegals in preparing subpoena responses, credit applications, correspondence, and other documents
  • Instruct paralegals and legal assistants in performing project-related tasks
  • Model behaviors that support the company’s common purpose; ensure guests and team members are supported at the highest level
  • Ensure all activities are in compliance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Complete other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited college or university required
  • License to practice law in the state of Texas or registration with the Texas Board of Law Examiners if not licensed in the state of Texas
  • Minimum three years’ prior experience working in a law firm or other corporate legal setting is required

Specialized Knowledge

  • Knowledge of general business and contract law
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills
