Job Description

Summary

The purpose of this job is to develop models and algorithms that support the Financial, Commercial and Physical Trading group within the company and implement the models into software applications.

Essential Functions

  • Develop, implement, and maintain quantitative models for trading, risk management, and asset valuation.
  • Utilize programming skills in C++, Python, or R language to create and deploy trading and risk management applications.
  • Collaborate with traders and other team members to understand and address Commercial needs.
  • Analyze and interpret large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for optimization.
  • Continuously improve models by researching and implementing cutting-edge techniques and methodologies.
  • Communicate complex quantitative concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proactively identify and implement creative solutions to complex problems, demonstrating the ability to think "outside the box."
  • Perform analysis of business decisions and strategic issues, including Mergers and Acquisitions, Commodity markets, term contracts and transaction pricing.
  • Support the continued development of Pilot’s financial and commercial modeling infrastructure and repositories of fundamental market data.
  • Using Excel and Python, build models to develop and provide analytical studies on forward curves and energy commodity prices.
  • Independently prepare advanced ad-hoc analysis, reports, and presentations on demand.
  • Identify areas for improvements and continual development of risk systems
  • Model behaviors that support the company’s common purpose; ensure guests and team members are supported at the highest level
  • Ensure all activities are in compliance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Complete other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Physics, Statistics or Computer Science
  • Master’s degree in Quantitative Finance, or Statistics preferred
  • Minimum three years’ energy industry experience required; three to five years’ in Finance, Banking, Consulting, Corporate Development or Economic Planning, preferred

Specialized Knowledge

  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills required; Advanced Excel needed
  • Strong modeling skills and ability to model, run and analyze statistical and financial data using Python and/or R coding
  • Intermediate knowledge of ETRM software (e.g., RightAngle) preferred
  • Understanding of physical and financial energy commodity trades required
  • Understanding of front, middle, and back-office business and operational risks impacting an energy marketing function required
