Job Description

The purpose of this role is to work with traders in multiple capacities. These include managing book positions, verifying PnL, conducting market research and other functions in Pilot Flying J’s (PFJ) energy business.

Essential Functions

  1. Track and manage diesel and gas trading desks’ book positions and PnL using Microsoft Excel
  2. Ensure physical positions are hedged properly for assigned traders’ books
  3. Prepare Trade at Settlement (TAS) execution for all Pilot entities on a daily basis
  4. Assist traders in execution of trades in the market
  5. Perform market research and analysis related to energy, oil and gas
  6. Track vessel imports and exports into the US from various markets
  7. Manage and post Exchange of Futures for Physical Contracts (EFPs) for Pilot and Saratoga. Responsible for other matters related to EFPs
  8. Daily communication with PFJ’s Futures Clearer on matters related to EFPs
  9. Responsible for position management of subaccounts for assigned traders
  10. Publish and distribute end of day positions and PnL estimates for assigned traders
  11. Provide ad hoc research and analysis per trading team’s request
  12. Monitor and report company-wide expiry limits at end of each calendar month
  13. Track and manage cross exchange switch opportunities
  14. Assist Mid Office team in issues related to PnL and positions
  15. Model behaviors that support the company’s common purpose; ensure guests and team members are supported at the highest level
  16. Ensure all activities are in compliance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  17. Complete other duties as assigned
  18. Coordinate product allocations and customer set ups at terminals
  19. Track blending and cargo PNL calculations
  20. Track RIN/RVO/LCFS balances and trade executions
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field required
  • MBA preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum four years’ energy trading experience preferred

Specialized Knowledge

  • Knowledge of physical and financial energy commodity trading
  • Comprehension of hedging requirements and needs for trading desks in various US markets
  • Understanding of cash and futures markets
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex issues across the deal life cycle of trades
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills
