Sr Manager, Energy Accounting

This is a leadership position within Pilot’s Energy’s accounting department supporting our marketing and supply business. Managing a team that is responsible for all general accounting functions; overseeing operational accounting including the completion of ledger accounts, financial statements, budget, and audit areas of the business.
Essential Functions
- Oversee, lead, and set priorities for a team of Accountants, Senior Accountants and Accounting Managers to ensure they are supported at the highest level to meet their job duties and responsibilities
- Select, train, develop and mentor direct reports, to include appraising job performance and conducting performance reviews
- Develop and oversee the ongoing development and establishment of accounting policies and procedures and operational strategies, including the review and implementation of process and system changes and accounting policies and procedures
- Manage a team responsible for the monthly financial close process, including ensuring all costs incurred are properly recorded, reviewing journal entries, account balance reconciliations and report preparation
- Lead and mentor team of accountants in building reporting layouts to provide management with an understanding of the company’s financial performance and the financial impact of business plans and strategies
- Participate in strategic financial projects, including upgrades and implementation of ERP software
- Ensure compliance with internal control policies in a SOX environment
- Collaborate with external auditors to ensure successful audit results and compliance
- Oversee accounting transactions and ensure the integrity of accounting records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with accepted accounting policies and principles
- Manage financial reporting ensuring dissemination of periodic financial statements to external and internal business partners including banks, Board of Managers, and auditors
- Comply with federal, state and local legal requirements by studying new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports and advising management on needed actions.

- Complete other duties as assigned by the Senior Director and Pilot Energy CFO
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
- Master’s degree in business administration (MBA) preferred
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
- Minimum 8-10 years’ experience in Accounting required
- Minimum 5 years’ industry experience or 5 years’ experience in public accounting preferred
- Minimum of at least 3 years of management experience
Specialized Knowledge
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounted principles (GAAP)
- Strong experience with financial analysis, including accounting software and data analytics
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills required; advanced skills preferred. Including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
